I am convinced that the world needs Christians that know why they believe what they believe and then act on it. That may sound simple but sadly the modern Christian has become just like every other religious person with the attitude that stiff arms questions and says, "my leaders say it, I believe it and that settles it". I have even heard Bible believing pastors say that from the pulpit. The problem with that attitude is two fold. 1. It is more often than not, a cop-out for not having an answer to questions and 2. questions need and deserve to be answered.
The wonderful part is that scripture can be proven. Unlike other religions that contradict themselves and have little to no physical evidence to their beliefs and origin of instructional documents, Christianity is based in fact and has history on it's side.
In the future I will write more about this topic as I have personally been convicted about my lack of knowledge in Christian Apologetics. The Christian leaders in my life failed me. I'm not dumping all of my shortcomings on them because ultimately I am responsible for obtaining the knowledge on my own, but I was not challenged. I was fortunate to attend a Bible believing university where I wasn't questioned about my faith unlike most public education establishments. Then again I may have been further along had someone actually challenged my beliefs.
The theme verse really for apologetics is 1 Peter 3:15 which says, "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,..."
Two things typically happen. Either there is no answer because there is no knowledge or the other extreme is a wealth of knowledge but no gentleness or respect. As Ephesians 4:15 says, "Speak the truth in love". Both ways are harmful.
The beautiful thing about Christianity is that unlike all other religions, it opens itself up to scrutiny, questioning and even criticism. Try questioning the Quran and see what happens! How can we allow that you might ask? Why is the Bible the exception? Let me put it to you this way. If you are taking a test to which you knew all the answers because you also knew what questions were going to be asked would you mind taking the test? You see when you have the facts and the answers you don't need to worry about being asked the questions. If you are right about something and you have proof, you have no reason to hide anything. The answers are there, but do you know them? Selah.
